SEARCH EFFORTS

 

December 1, 2003 - Overdue Elderly Female, Rohnert Park

SUBJECT:

An elderly female went missing late afternoon on the 1st after having a small argument with other family members.

SCENARIO:

She was not known to have normal walking routines; she used courtesy transports to local activities; It was reported that she was not carrying any money; She has a small dog that never leaves her side.

HASTY ASSIGNMENTS:
  1. Investigations; calls to local bus companies, hospitals, stores, etc.
  2. Interviewing familiy members
  3. Staging and briefing; acquisition of maps

THE FIND:

At approximately 1100 the family called the command post stating the subject might be in a local hotel. Subsequent investigation confirmed she was there and safe.

WHAT HAPPENED:

Subject took a cab, wrote a check, took herself and her dog to a local motel to spend the night. The family recalled having previous discussions that led to them recalling this information after our interviewing team had left the home.

The team vowed to check with the cab companies again to find out what investigation questions were missed; what could have been done to get the correct answer the first time.
